Mental Health

First Aid Kits

Project Mission

With these Mental Health First Aid Kits, Trauma Speaks hopes to provide resources for student-age youth who may need resources or guidance to manage a mental health struggle.

Modern-day students experience unique kinds of stresses and in some cases, the adults in their lives are not prepared to handle these challenges. We hope to provide a set of tools that may not otherwise be available, and education in mental health that students can take with them for the rest of their lives.

What is in a Mental Health First Aid Kit?

This kit provides grounding and reflective tools to help calm the mind.

In times of turmoil or in the face of chronic mental health struggles, grounding allows a person to come back to a place where they can make conscious, rational observations and decisions about their situation.

Items in this kit are geared to help your student’s mind and body understand that it doesn’t need to be on alert.
Included are:
  • Age-appropriate tools to help students build a lifelong foundation in understanding their emotions.
  • Sensory tools to refocus physical and mental energy.
  • Exercises from therapists and mental health professionals to calm the nervous system and gain groundedness in turbulent times.*
  • Resources to encourage healthy coping mechanisms and balanced distraction
  • Tools to help *student* document and put words to their experience.
  • Resources to learn about emotions the recipient may be struggling with.
  • Guidance for trusted adults in supporting their student through these challenges.
